Those interested in owning one of these magnificent birds need a number of things.
First & foremost,
HOMEWORK/RESEARCH- Hyacinth Macaw are covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and if you want to keep one, you should do your best to ensure the bird is coming from registered breeding stock.
Other important requirements include:
PATIENCE- The waiting lists for these birds at recognized breeders are years long.
COMMITMENT- Captive birds can live for 70 years or more.
DEEP POCKETS- these are amongst the most valuable members of the Parrot family, it's not uncommon for prices to start at over $20 grand.
LOL! That does NOT include a constant supply of toys and chewable objects necessary to keep the rest of your stuff in one piece.
A bored bird is usually either noisy, destructive or both.
