10 mins of Sedum visitors

Description

My mother had an appointment with her eye doctor the other day and rather than stand in a crowded waiting room, I decided to settled down with my macro rig outside to watch the insect traffic around the pink Sedum they had planted out front.
Sadly, the batteries in my flash were getting weak, so I missed a number of good shots of the various visitors.

I'm not sure if they like Sedum (the flowers might be a bit small for them), but I did find it odd that I didn't see a single Honeybee for the entire hour I was there. There had been an article in our local newspaper just the other week about the serious issues faced my local Apiarists & farmers. I've also seen & read some disturbing articles regarding some plants that have been promoted & sold at major stores as "Bee Friendly" actually consistently tested positive for Neonicotinoids (a neuro-active insecticide chemically related to nicotine). There are preliminary indications that this chemical has a connection to CCS (Colony Collapse Syndrome).

I did see a wide variety of other bee types though.
In the span of 10 minutes there were at least 8 different species of tiny "solitary" bee (I only managed to get shots of 4 of them), 2 different types of wasp and 4 species of flies - all feeding from the same set of blooms.

I'm going to post each of these as a slightly larger individual shots with IDs

Glad to see you making good use of your time, Jim.  :)
Yeah, I've watched some documentaries about the disappearing bees, fortunately, I still find many bumble bees and honeybees around my yard in Rochester NY.  (My Sedums are just beginning to turn pink from green!)
